The Family Coone
After many years researching the name Coone a couple of thing are clear. They are people with a clear view on what direction they want to go to and how to get there. They are continues working on finding new possibilities. They like to travel, they moved to places like Ireland, Australia, United States, China and Asia.
In my research I came across Coone's who travel from England, Rotterdam, Amsterdam amd Germany to other regions. Some because of their belives and religion others because they wanted a new start. In some case they moved because there was no work in the region and so they moved to relatives abroad. One Family stops in Leiden, Netherlands, and because they had sheep in Norwich started working in the wol industry. After some years they moved to Antwerp mainly because their was more work in this industry and they were promised a better future. Around 1700 a large group of Coone were living in Belgium. The industry collapsed and they had to work in the wood industry and the meecrap. This is a red die found in the ground. They did not make a lot of money and so they stayed in one place. Sometimes moving to another city nearby but never far. Some Coone lived in expensive house were they worked as handyman of woman.
During this time some move to the US. They heard about this great new country and the sky is the limit.
Where is the name Coone originated?
Truthfully, I have no idea. There are so many different explanations. I have seen documents telling stories about the name of Cunningham and how this could be translated to Coone. Others tell the story of the King Coone from Ireland. He lived around 900 in the area of Killkenny. Nothing is documented and all the stories are unconformed. One thing: Never believe a company telling you that if you pay them $$$$$ they will send you the family name history and the family weapon. All of them are false.
Another story is found on the internet about a keltic work for a special shape of bay. This sounded almost the same as the Coone and maybe it evolved into different spellings. This is getting close to a real solutions. Why? in that same area schools with the Name Coone can be found and some other spellings are found. For sure we have a definite link to Ireland. The name originated from Ireland in the 1400 's.
My grandfather is 'Josephus Dominicus Coone' married to Cornelia Johanna Brozius.
My mothers name is Davidse from grandfather "Andries Davidse" unfortunately I do not have much information about him.
Gandma Griek " Adriana Sjaan Griek " is from the Island Texel and moved when she was 5 to the USA. After living their for 8 years she moved back with her mother. How the name Griek came to the island is unknown. The story my grandmother told me was that a sailor stranded ashore in Texel and people belived he came from Greece (in dutch Griekenland) and so they named him THE GRIEK.
