K XVII

On 8 December 1941 was the K-XVII based in Singapore and subordinated to British Eastern Fleet Command. On 8 December she patrolled off the East Coast of Malacca (Pahang River Area) and in the Gulf of Siam. At the end of December 1941 (21 December?) K-XVII had strucked a sea mine while she was exiting the Gulf of Siam. All crew was lost. She sailed right into a Japanese line of mines, which has also sunk the Dutch submarine 0-16

When I started this website I was under the impression that my grandfather died on a submarine that was struck by a mine. After reading all the articles on the Internet you have to wonder if this is the case or that governements are trying to conceal the real faith of what happened.
The whole real story about the KXVII will probably never surface but many people have been trying to find clues to make plausable stories.
There are two books written about (or alleged about) the KXVII,
- "Paladin": By Brian Garfield, published by Simon & Schuster, 1980
For all kinds of information about Dutch Submarines
- "Op JB": By Cristopher Creighton, published by Simon & Schuster, 1995
If all these stories are for real I do not know but if you want to read some of the articles click here.
